Alex runs up to me and says, "Daddy, I want hear you cry."
Okay, I'm confused. He's in a happy mood, he's been playing with Nathaniel with his train tracks, and I don't think he's trying to say what he's actually saying.
I ask him to repeat himself, and he says the same thing, but with a kind of melody behind the words. "I want hear you cry."
Then it dawns on me. "You want to hear John Mayer?"
"Ye-ah, John May-er music!"
He was trying to recite the first line of John Mayer's "Heart of Life" (which is, "I hate to see you cry"). I haven't played in a couple weeks, since it's in Karen's car. Since I introduced her to his latest album, she's been playing the CD constantly when we're driving together, so he heard it quite a bit before that. I know he knows the title of "Gravity" and that he hums along to the songs when we play them, but hadn't heard him reciting unprompted lines from the songs yet.
I had to go hunt down a recording of a concert version of the song so he could hear it. I guess MySpace is good for something, after all. :)
